Mr. Peters is taking care of the cleanup, which should be done by Wed. Unfortunately this was my favorite tree in the whole backyard (we got the shade). It will probably have to be cut down. I'm going to miss that tree!
The left-side broke off during a windstorm on Saturday (I think). My theory is that it then unbalanced the tree, and the stress caused the right branch to split off on Sunday when there was no wind at all! 
Whew! That was close!

Good thing it happened now, before it got any bigger - those Pear trees aren't good for anything but falling at inopportune moments. Sorry you're losing your shade, though!
